Selecting the Proper PPE

The type of PPE an employee needs depends on the job and hazards.

Personal protective equipment or PPE is essential in all manufacturing jobs. This kind of safety gear provides protection from injury from minor cuts, bruises to major accidents. A lot of times, people using the wrong PPE can actually cause more harm than good. Wearing the proper PPE is a must when it comes to working on any job site. Below is a basic guide to making sure you have what you need to keep safe and comfortable.


Earplugs are a great way to protect your hearing from long-term exposure to loud noises. Earplugs should be used every day when you work in areas with high noise levels or if you anticipate working around loud noises for an extended period of time.


Respirators are designed to protect workers from inhaling certain airborne contaminants such as dust, vapors and gases. Respirators are available in a variety of styles and types. Depending on the kind of work you do, you may need to wear a half-face respirator, which covers only your mouth and nose; or a full-face respirator, which also covers your eyes and ears.

Face Shield

Face shields are typically worn by workers who come in contact with potentially harmful chemicals or particles. They are constructed of clear polycarbonate plastic and offer protection from the eyes, nose and mouth. Face shields also offer protection from flying projectiles. It is important that face shields fit properly to ensure maximum protection.
