Frozen Food Manufacturer Cited for 36 Violations After Worker Fatally Injured

OSHA placed the company in the Severe Violator Enforcement Program.

The fatal injury of a worker led to an investigation and 36 violations for one New Jersey company.

According to a press release, the incident took place in December 2021. A contractor for CJ TMI Manufacturing America LLC of Robbinsville, New Jersey, was replacing a freezer drain when they fell from the scissor lift. They suffered fatal injuries.

OSHA found that a snap hook on the safety chain did not work. It also determined that the lift was not inspected by the company, a frozen food manufacturer, the press release said.

Workers were also exposed to hazards and potential incidents because of incorrect machine guarding, accumulation of combustible flour dust, inaccessible emergency eyewashes and showers and untrained workers, agency investigators found.

OSHA placed CJ TMI Manufacturing America in the Severe Violator Enforcement Program and proposed $368,513 in penalties.

“CJ TMI Manufacturing America LLC could have prevented this tragedy had it followed proper safety precautions,” said OSHA Area Director Paula Dixon-Roderick in Marlton, New Jersey in the press release. “The company must address and correct a substantial number of hazardous conditions identified during our inspection so that nobody else has to risk their life.”
