Moderna Applies for Authorization of its 94% Effective Coronavirus Vaccine

Moderna applied for FDA authorization for its vaccine, which is reportedly 100% effective at preventing serious cases of coronavirus, on Monday.

Moderna applied for authorization from the FDA for its coronavirus vaccine on November 30, according to CNN.

The company’s application submission occurred after announcing on November 16 that its vaccine is 94% effective. They have asked the FDA to consider that the vaccine is 94.1% effective at preventing the virus and 100% effective at preventing severe cases.

“We have a full expectation to change the course of this pandemic,” said Dr. Tal Zaks, Moderna’s chief medical officer.

The application will be reviewed by the FDA advisory committee sometime in December. According to Dr. Fauci, the first vaccinations will happen at the end of December.

Moderna will be applying for authorization from the European Medicines Agency as well.
