The National Transportation Safety Board is scheduled to hold an investigative hearing on Nov. 14 about the failure of an engine on Southwest Airlines flight 1380 on April 17, 2018, after takeoff from New York City's LaGuardia Airport. Fragments from the engine struck the plane's fuselage, causing rapid depressurization, and a female passenger died as a result. Eight others suffered minor injuries.

The crew made an emergency descent and diverted the aircraft to Philadelphia International Airport.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. EST in NTSB's Board Room and Conference Center in Washington, D.C.

The incident was the first fatality involving a U.S. registered commercial passenger air carrier since the 2009 Colgan Air flight 3407 crash near Buffalo, N.Y., according to the safety board.
