ASSE Officially Becomes ASSP

The society's website is now www.assp.org and features a complete redesign that showcases ASSP's strategic priorities of education, advocacy, standards, and member communities. Members voted last year to switch to ASSP.

The American Society of Safety Engineers has officially changed its name, logo, and has updated its website and social media channels a of June 1, 2018. As thousands of safety professionals converge on San Antonio to attend the annual conference of the world's oldest professional safety society starting this weekend, they will see the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) brand throughout.

"We're evolving with our profession to stay at the forefront of workplace safety advancements," said ASSP President Jim Smith, MS, CSP. "Our members are involved in various management systems and technical safety areas such as risk assessment, hazard identification, injury prevention, and workers' compensation. They also work to improve human and organizational safety performance. It's an exciting time to be part of our organization."

According to the society's news release, ASSP's revised brand "better reflects its current membership and positions the Society for growth with young safety professionals. The new name better tells prospective members that they need not be engineers to join the organization."

The society's website is now www.assp.org and features a complete redesign that showcases ASSP's strategic priorities of education, advocacy, standards, and member communities.

The society was founded as the United Association of Casualty Inspectors in 1911 following the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, and its name changed in 1914 to the American Society of Safety Engineers. Members voted last year to switch to ASSP.
