OSHA Cites Pennsylvania Manufacturer

OSHA cited the manufacturer of dog treats for 19 violations, including failing to implement lockout/tagout procedures, blocking electrical panels, failing to develop a hazard communication program, and exposing workers to confined space, machine guarding, and electrical hazards.

OSHA has cited dog treat manufacturer Prime Packaging Partners LLC for exposing employees to safety and health hazards at its facility in Hatfield, Pa. OSHA proposed penalties of $180,685.

OSHA conducted an inspection of Prime Packaging Partners LLCs Hatfield facility in response to a complaint that an employee suffered an amputation from unguarded saw blades. OSHA cited the manufacturer for 19 violations, including failing to implement lockout/tagout procedures, blocking electrical panels, failing to develop a hazard communication program, and exposing workers to confined space, machine guarding, and electrical hazards.

"These injuries can be prevented if the employer uses appropriate safety measures to protect workers from amputations," said Jean Kulp, OSHA Allentown Area Office director.

Prime Packaging Partners LLC has 15 business days from receipt of its citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
