Patrice Kelly was named director of the Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance (ODAPC) in the Office of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation on Oct. 11, the Drug & Alcohol Testing Industry Association reported. Kelly has worked at ODAPC since 2007 and was named deputy director in 2008 and acting director in 2013, according to DATIA, which reported that she serves as lead expert on a highly experienced team of anti-drug and alcohol misuse prevention policy advisors.

"DATIA, and the entire drug and alcohol testing industry, is pleased to know that Patrice is now officially in the position of director of ODAPC. Her commitment to furthering public safety, providing outreach to those working to ensure drug- and alcohol-free workplaces, and maintaining a consistent and open channel of constructive communication is what we admire about Patrice. We have enjoyed working with her since her early days at the FAA and look forward to working with her in this capacity for many, many years to come," said Laura Shelton, DATIA's executive director.

Before joining ODAPC, Kelley was deputy division manager of the Federal Aviation Administration's Drug Abatement Division, senior attorney for Aerospace Medical Issues, and an FAA enforcement attorney. She was the first FAA attorney to revoke an air carrier's certificate for failure to implement drug and alcohol testing and initiated FAA's first civil penalty cases enforcing the drug and alcohol testing regulations, according to DATIA, which also reported she is frequent speaker at the DATIA Annual Conference.
