DOT Report Shows Progress in Upward Mobility via Transportation

Seven cities have been able to improve their upward mobility efforts in a new report

The DOT has released Ladders of Opportunity Transportation Empowerment Pilot LadderSTEP 2015-2016 Report, which highlights the progress of seven cities in their quest to achieve upward mobility through transportation decisions. The cities—Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Baton Rouge, LA; Charlotte, NC; Indianapolis, IN; Phoenix, AZ; and Richmond, VA; have been tasked with restore transportation connections, develop workforce capacity, and fast track neighborhood revitalization.

“Transportation projects should be designed and built with the full engagement of communities they impact,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “By partnering with these cities and their Mayors in the LadderSTEP pilot program, we were able to take advantage of the tremendous benefits of in-depth collaboration, which has inspired participants to keep creating more opportunities for their communities through transportation projects.”
