Concordia Refloating Set for July 14

A no-fly zone is in place and restrictions on ship movements in the area are in place, but no beaches will be closed when the operation begins.

July 14 is the planned date for the Titan Micoperi salvage team to refloat the Costa Concordia and begin moving it away from the coast of Giglio Island, where the ship ran aground more than two years ago -- on Jan. 13, 2012.

The start time of the refloating operation depends on the weather report, and an authorization is still needed for it, so the final confirmation of the state won't be announced until July 13, according to a notice posted on the project's website.

Media interest in the move will be intense, and the team is requiring that journalists apply for accreditation and that TV networks that intend to broadcast live will be able to park only one van.

While no beaches will be closed during the refloating, a no-fly zone is in place and shipping in the area around the wreck is restricted.
