FAA Initiatives Intended to Improve NYC Airspace

Several new initiatives from the agency aim to improve airspace in the New York area.

A series of new initiatives from the FAA will help improve airspace in the New York area, according to a news release from the agency The initiatives will help reduce delays and save passengers and airlines alike both time and money.

The agency has modified the approach to airspace redesign in New York after completing the first two phases and has begun the design process for a new air traffic facility. Located in Long Island, the new air traffic facility will replace the TRACON facility located in Westbury, N.Y. The new facility will be able to expand its operations to manage other facilities in the area, according to the FAA. In addition, the agency has completed the first two stages of a New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia airspace redesign with new procedures and routings that "de-conflict departures, reduce delays, and allow aircraft to reach overhead jet routes more efficiently."

In addition, the agency will be collaborating with industry over the next few years to ease bottlenecks by using Precision Based Navigation procedures to deliver more efficient operations and benefits to these areas.
