ATF Concludes Ammo Plant Explosion Accidental
One worker died in the April 16 explosion at the Rio Ammunition plant in McEwen, Tenn.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' National Response Team has concluded the April 16 explosion at the Rio Ammunition plant in McEwen, Tenn., was accidental rather than a criminal or terrorist act. The explosion occurred in an area of the mezzanine that fed the loading machine. One employee died and three others were hurt.
Agents from the ATF Nashville Field Office and the Tennessee State Fire Marshal's Bomb and Arson Section processed the scene in order to determine the cause of the incident.
Tennessee OSHA also is investigating the incident.
