OSHA Accepting NACOSH Nominations

There are 12 members of the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety & Health, and OSHA is now accepting a nomination for all of those positions.

A notice published March 26 by Assistant Secretary Dr. David Michaels invites interested parties to submit nominations for membership on OSHA's National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety & Health (NACOSH). Nominations will be accepted for the next 60 days via www.regulations.gov (Docket No. OSHA-2014-0001).

NACOSH has a dozen members, all of whom the secretary of Labor appoints. The notice states that the terms of eight current NACOSH members end on May 21, 2014, and the terms of the other four members will end Jan .22, 2015. "Given this," it states, "OSHA is accepting nominations for all 12 positions on NACOSH, which is composed of the following:

  • Four public representatives;
  • Two management representatives;
  • Two labor representatives;
  • Two occupational safety professional representatives; and
  • Two occupational health professional representatives."

The HHS secretary designates one of the occupational health professional representatives, one occupational safety professional representative, and two public representatives for appointment by the secretary of Labor.

This time, the secretary will appoint six members to two-year terms and six to three-year terms.

Nominations must include the nominee's name, occupation or current position, and contact information. The nomination also must identify the category that the candidate is qualified to represent, and include a resume of the nominee’s background, experience, and qualifications. In addition, the nomination must state that the nominee is aware of the nomination and is willing to serve and regularly attend NACOSH meetings.
