Roofing Material Manufacturer Cited by OSHA

U.S. Minerals LLC was cited for 11 allged workplace violations found during a follow-up inspection.

OSHA has cited abrasive blasting and roofing materials company U.S. Minerals LLC's Harvey, La., facility with 11 safety and health violations, according to the agency. The company faces $77,770 in proposed fines for several violations, including allegedly failing to train and protect workers when entering confined spaces, failing to implement lockout/tagout procedures, and more.

The initial inspection was completed in June 2010 and a follow-up inspection began in September 2013. OSHA cited the company with 18 serious, 10 repeat and two other-than-serious violations during the first inspection with fines totaling $118,000, and a settlement was reached.

Most recently, OSHA cited the company for 11 violations for failure to provide required protection for workers exposed to high noise levels, failure to ensure forklift operators knew how to work safely, failure to implement safe lockout/tagout procedures when maintaining equipment, and failure to train workers when entering hazardous confined spaces. The company also received one repeat violation for failing to conduct annual inspections of the company's lockout/tagout procedures.
