Company Cited for Combustible Dust and Amputation Hazards

OSHA has cited Dupont Yard Inc. for 22 alleged health and safety violations relating to combustible dust, amputation hazards, and more.

Dupont Yard Inc., based in Homerville, Ga., has been cited by OSHA for 22 health and safety hazards following a complaint from a worker. The inspection found alleged combustible dust, amputation, and other hazards, and the agency has issued $279,400 in proposed penalties. The company manufactures posts for agricultural projects and highway construction and produces timber and wood chips. According to OSHA, the company has been cited for 39 violations during the past six years.

The most recent inspection found Dupont Yard Inc. responsible for three willful safety violations ($171,600 in proposed fines) for exposing workers to hazards by failing to implement basic safety procedures. If in place, these basic procedures would have prevented against amputation, crushing, and electrical hazards.

The company was also cited for two repeat violations ($30,030 in proposed fines) for lacking proper housekeeping and failing to close electrical panels, which can lead to electrical shock hazards. In addition, OSHA cited Dupont for 17 health and safety violations ($77,770) for not implementing a lockout/tagout program, not properly training workers on locking equipment, having accumulated wood dust on ledges, and electrical equipment and more.
