Potato Chip Company Cited for Over 20 Safety Violations
OSHA cites Terrell’s Potato Chip Corp. for over $100,000 in proposed fines
According to a press release from OSHA, the organization has cited Syracuse, NY-based potato chip company Terrell’s Potato Chip Co. for $115,500 in proposed safety violation fines. The company has been cited for 23 violations following an inspection that was completed as part of OSHA’s Site-Specific Targeting Program.
The facility located at 218 Midler Park Drive was cited for the violations, many of which are similar to violations that were cited during a 2009 inspection, according to OSHA. The nine repeat violations (totaling $70,840 in proposed fines) include: failure to ensure guarding on operating parts of machinery, failure to train workers on the unintended startup of machinery, failure to secure stacked materials from collapsing or sliding, failure to remove damaged electrical parts from service and failure to keep work areas clean.
OSHA also cited the company for other hazards, including a locked exit door, fire extinguishers that were not fully charged, unlabeled containers of hazardous chemicals and more.
