EFSA Study Suggests Exposure to Neurotoxic Pesticides Harmful

The organization releases a report suggesting that neonicotinoids may affect the development of the nervous system

A new study from the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) has reported that neonicotinoids may be harmful to the development of the human nervous system, according to an article from Nature Magazine. Neonicotinoids are a class of insecticide previous linked to declines in bee populations.

EFSA has recommended The European Commission reduce or eliminate the use of the chemicals, which have been controversial for quite some time. The European Commission initially asked EFSA to look into the neonicotinoids’ effect on human health. Evidence from the EFSA study suggests that currently accepted levels of the chemical be drastically lowered, according to the article from Nature.

The EFSA does suggest their evidence is limited, however, and has advised further research into the neurotoxicity of the chemicals. For more information, visit: efsa.europa.eu.
