Looking Ahead to Safety 2014

The June 8-11 event in Orlando will be here before you know it, and it follows a highly successful conference in another prime destination, Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS – Comfortably nestled between Insomniac Events' wildly popular Electric Daisy Carnival -- a three-day, dusk-to-dawn, electronic dance music festival at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway -- and the return of daily high temperatures above 110 degrees, the Safety 2013 conference was a a big hit with attendees and exhibitors, many of which had multiple new products on display and new initiatives to announce.

Honeywell Safety Products announced the launch of the Honeywell Safety Institute, a bid to become a world leader in safety training and education. Cintas announced it is sponsoring the Award for Innovation in Occupational Safety Management or Practice, working with ASSE, and will present it for the first time in June 2014. Draeger unveiled the Dräger Gas Detection App, describing it as "the first application that offers users a comprehensive mobile gas detection resource for tubes and portable instruments that is fully optimized for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and Android devices." A spokeswoman for Kimberly-Clark Professional described the upcoming launch in North America of its Efficient Workplace initiative, describing it as an outreach initiative using best practices and lessons learned from its own mills' highly successful safety programs.

CEO Somen Mondal and colleagues at Field ID, recently acquired by MasterLock, demonstrated their user-friendly, cloud-based safety and inspection software, including a lockout/tagout feature, at the parent company’s booth.

With Safety 2013 concluded, the American Society of Safety Engineers is already preparing for Safety 2014, June 8-11 in Orlando, Fla. EH&S experts interested in presenting a session at the event should be preparing their proposals, as well -- the deadline is July 19. The call for presenters is available at www.asse.org/safety2014.
