NTSB Turns Spotlight on Impaired Driving

A two-day forum involving the board members and numerous experts will explore the issues in depth.

Reaching Zero is the title of a May 15-16 forum in which the host National Transportation Safety Board examines many issues surrounding impaired driving -– everything from the substances involved to enforcement, education, strategies used in other countries, and the types of people who drive impaired.

It will be a free, open forum with no registration required, and it will be webcast live in its entirety at bit.ly/fzFiOW. An archived webcast will be available at www.ntsb.gov for three months afterward.

The final agenda and speakers' biographies are available at www.ntsb.gov/ReachingZero. They include Jan Withers, president of Mothers Against Drunk Driving; Dr. Robert L. DuPont, M.D., president of the Institute for Behavior and Health; Anne T. McCartt, Ph.D., senior vice president for research at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety; Michael Brown, director of NHTSA’s Office of Impaired Driving & Occupant Protection; Ward Vanlaar, Ph.D., vice president of research for the Traffic Injury Research Foundation; Troy Costales, chairman of the Governors Highway Safety Association; and three experts from the European Transport Safety Council, the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety in Queensland, Australia, and the British Columbia (CN) Ministry of Justice.
