AMA Offers Weigh What Matters App to Promote Health

Enabling users to track their weight, eating, and activity by making daily entries, it could be very useful to the general public and may indirectly help employers.

The American Medical Association's latest app could be very useful to the general public and may indirectly help employers encourage workers to be healthier. The free Weigh What Matters App encourages users to talk with their physicians to set personal health goals for their weight, eating, and activity. Users can track their progress by making daily entries and will have their BMI calculated.

The app is part of AMA's Healthier Life Steps program promoting health choices. "Every January, Americans implement New Year's resolutions that involve healthy eating and increased physical activity," said AMA President Dr. Peter W. Carmel, M.D. "This new app encourages people to work with their physicians to set healthy goals, and it allows users to track their progress and accomplish their goals.

"The AMA Healthier Life Steps program offers tools and information to help physicians and patients work together to promote longer, healthier lives," Carmel added. "Physicians and their staff can use this new app as a resource to work with patients to address challenging behavioral changes."

AMA also offers a My Medications App that allows patients to carry and share critical medical information about medications they take, their allergies, emergency contacts, and more.
