Driver Training Firm Offers Free Video on Distractions

The video from Smith System Driver Improvement Institute, Inc. is available until Oct. 31 for only $8 shipping and handling per video to organizations.

Freshly returned from last week's DOT Distracted Driving Summit in Washington, D.C., the CEO of Arlington, Texas-based Smith System Driver Improvement Institute, Inc. has decided to offer a distracted driving video free to organizations from now until Oct. 31. Each copy of the "Are You Playing with a Full Deck?" video will cost only $8 shipping and handling during this period.

Smith System was founded in 1952. Then and now, it delivers on-road, hands-on safety training to more than 35,000 fleet drivers annually. Its programs are presented in 83 countries in 21 languages, with services provided to more than half of the current Fortune 500 fleets, according to the company.

"Last week, I participated in the U.S. Department of Transportation Distracted Driving Summit in Washington, D.C., where industry experts and members of Congress gathered to discuss the problem of distracted driving," said Tony Douglas, CEO of Smith System. "I am pleased to report that the scientific conclusions verify what we have been teaching all along and what Harold Smith originally said more than 50 years ago: Driving is eyes-mind and not hands-feet. Dr. Tom Dingus, director of the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, said it best during the summit, 'Vision is king.' The meeting consensus was that vision factors (seeing) and cognitive factors (thinking) are the solution to the distracted driving problem, or what we might call 'not playing with a full deck.' I am very pleased to offer this complimentary copy of our distracted driving DVD to help reinforce the messages of the Distracted Driving Summit."

To preview the video and to order, visit www.smith-system.com or all 800-777-7648 or email [email protected].
