Coast Guard to Host Paddle Sport Safety Seminar

The public is invited to a free paddle sport safety seminar hosted by the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary at the Umana School, located at 312 Border Street in East Boston, Saturday, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.

The seminar will educate paddlers about important safety techniques and equipment used on the water. On-site activities will include:

In-the-water demonstrations of self and assisted rescues, as well as proper paddling techniques
Displays of kayaks, safety gear, and weather protective clothing
Discussions about cold water emersion, the effects of hypothermia and dressing for the elements
Experienced personnel to answer questions

Paddlers are encouraged to bring their personal crafts for free inspections from the Auxiliary. For more information, contact Jeff James at (978) 486-4346.
