Come One, Come All

As the saying goes, the third time's the charm. Such is the case for the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif., the destination of the 96th Annual National Safety Council's 2008 Congress and Expo, which is happening from Sept. 19-24. The site has just recently completed its third major renovation since its humble beginnings as a domed Arena on Katella Avenue in 1967.

Presently, the center boasts a main lobby that soars 190 feet high, a meeting and ballroom space totaling 130,000 square feet, 200,000 square feet of pre-function areas, and 815,000 square feet of exhibit space.

This means there should be more than enough room to house the more than 800 exhibitors expected at this year's event, with room to spare for the 30 professional development seminars and 135 introductory, intermediate, and advanced technical sessions. The nine topic areas are Business and Industry, Construction/Labor/Utilities, Emerging Issues, Management/Leadership, Operational/ Technical/Regulatory, Research, Safety Culture/Behavior-Based Safety, Training, and Transportation and Traffic Safety.

For those attending for their first time, NSC will be hosting a "First Timers Reception," on Sunday, Sept. 21, from 5-7 p.m. at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel, Platinum Ballroom 8. The task of attending an industry conference for the first time can be a bit daunting and in order to calm fears and reduce stress, NSC is inviting all first timers to mix and mingle and get answers to any last-minute questions before the expo officially kicks off on Sept. 22.
