Renovators, Contractors Invited to Free Safe Lead Removal Workshop

EPA has extended an open invitation to contractors, renovators, remodelers, and anyone who works in the construction trades to attend its free, one-day lead-based paint training program to be held on April 22 at its mid-Atlantic office, 1650 Arch St., Philadelphia, Pa.

Offered on Earth Day 2008, the course is geared toward those who work in state and municipal agencies, community and social service organizations, home or code inspectors as well as contractors. EPA says it will benefit rehabbers and craftsmen who work as drywallers, painters, carpenters, and the general homeowner handyman.

Lead is a toxic metal that was used for many years in products found in and around our homes including lead-based paint. Lead may cause a range of health effects, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities, to seizures and death. Children six years old and under are most at risk.

Those interested in attending this free class must register in advance. For registration or more information on the class, go to www.leadsafetraining.org. For additional information on lead, go to www.epa.gov/lead.
