OSHA and Heat Stress: A Hot Topic in 2023

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there is an estimated 702 deaths, 67, 512 ER visits and 9,235 individuals hospital per year due to environmental heat exposure. In addition, there were nearly 100 worker deaths during the 2018 and 2019 calendar years (latest data available) according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. In order to reduce the numbers of deaths and injuries due to heat related issues, OSHA in 2022, created an emphasis program to help employers better protect their employees.

This webinar will examine the Top 5 Steps of OSHA’s Heat Illness Emphasis Program, analyze factors that can affect a workers ability to cope with heat and discuss potential controls to reduce the number of workplace injuries and deaths caused by environmental heat exposures.

SKC Inc.
At this time of year, heat stress is a “hot” topic. You may be familiar with the WBGT measurement method and a few personal ear, belt, or swallowable capsule monitors for heat exposure. While valuable and effective in their own way, there is new technology and a tool that complements and improves these traditional methods. SKC Inc.’s Dennis Collins will provide an overview of exposure guidelines, OSHA’s NEP for Heat, traditional WBGT and personal monitors, and introduce an exciting new real-time connected monitor that measures physiological response to heat to help prevent heat stress.
