Dust Fire at Pencil Company Causes Minor Damage
The cause of the March 20 fire is believed to be a spark from a machine used during the pencil manufacturing process.
A dust fire at a pencil manufacturer's plan on March 20 caused minimal damage, Chattanoogan.com reported. (It was launched in September 1999 as a web-only daily newspaper.)
The fire was reported about 8:20 a.m. at Wagner Pencil Company, 660 Industrial Blvd. in Sale Creek, Tenn. The Sale Creek Fire Department responded to the fire alarm, and firefighters saw smoke and flames visible from a sawdust collection silo behind the building. The fire was contained to the ductwork and the silo, according to the report, which said the cause of the fire is believed to be from a spark from a machine used during the pencil manufacturing process.
Fifteen firefighters responded and Hamilton County EMS and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office also responded, according to the report.
