Delta Maintains 'Star' Status in Colorado

OSHA has renewed its recognition of Delta Air Lines and its sister company, DAL Global Services, for exemplary achievement in their workplace safety and health program at the Colorado Springs Airport.

The two companies, which work together, provide passenger service operations at the airport. Since November 2006, their site has been designated as a VPP "star," representing the highest level of recognition that OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) offer. A VPP star site maintains employee injury and illness rates below the national average for its industry and meets safety and health program elements that exceed minimum OSHA standards. Delta and DAL Global are the only air transportation operators in Colorado to receive this prestigious recognition, OSHA noted.

"This accomplishment indicates a significant commitment by all of the employees and managers at Delta Air Lines and DAL Global Services in Colorado Springs," said Bob Glover, OSHA's assistant regional administrator in Denver. "Achieving VPP status was a tremendous accomplishment and sustaining a high level of performance over a long period of time is even more impressive."

OSHA's recognition programs include VPP for employers and employees who have implemented exemplary workplace safety and health management systems. In VPP, management, labor, and OSHA work cooperatively and proactively to prevent injuries, illnesses, and workplace hazards. As part of attaining VPP status, employers must demonstrate management commitment to the safety and health of their employees and actively involve employees in the safety and health management system.
