The integration of AI and robotics into construction continues to advance, but it presents both transformative opportunities and critical safety challenges for workers. How should safety professionals approach?

This webinar will explore how technology can be leveraged to reduce high-risk incidents while enabling effective safer human–robot collaboration on job sites. Drawing on recent research, real-world projects, and emerging innovations, we will highlight best practices for selecting and deploying the right technologies to protect workers, and strategies for fostering a culture of safety in an increasingly automated industry.

About the Speaker:

Sogand Hasanzadeh, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering

Sogand Hasanzadeh, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering and the director of the Intelligent-Inclusive-Safe (I2SAFE) lab at Purdue University. She received a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in Civil Engineering, and two Master's in Construction Engineering and Management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Shahid Beheshti University, Iran. Her research focuses on advancing smart construction safety through the application of cyber-physical-human systems, digital Twin, human factors, wearable sensors, VR/AR/MR/XR, robotics, and AI. Her interdisciplinary work is looking to create a shared language between civil engineering, data science, computer science, human factors, and cognitive/behavioral psychology that leads to more informed engineering solutions in response to the current and future challenges in complex construction projects. Her research studies are sponsored by various federal and state agencies, including NSF, several DOTs, construction companies, and the Electri International. Her smart safety work has also been repeatedly recognized nationally and internationally.
