Electrical and Multi-Hazard Hand Protection: Beyond Electrical Shock and Arc Flash
Date: Thursday March 20, 2025 at 2:00pm ET - 1:00pm CT - 11:00am PT
Hand protection has evolved significantly since metal and rail workers first used gloves stitched from animal hide to guard against cuts and burns. Today, gloves are designed to protect against extreme temperatures, vibration, cuts, conductivity, and electrical hazards (dielectric or voltage-rated), as well as to serve as protective layers for other gloves. These various forms of protection fall under the umbrella of multi-hazard hand protection—an essential element of workplace safety that has led to mandated regulations in the U.S. and other countries.
Modern manufacturing and utility industries often expose workers to multiple hazards simultaneously, making proper hand protection critical. However, understanding glove sizing, classifications, protection levels, maintenance, and inspection requirements can be overwhelming without a solid grasp of the basics.
This webinar uses electrical hand protection as a foundation to explore various standards related to glove specification, testing, and maintenance for electrical workers. The discussion is guided by both local and international standards, addressing practical industry challenges, such as:
- Can one glove provide both arc flash and electrical shock protection?
- Can cut-resistant gloves be used for electrical shock protection?
- Do all gloves designed for electrical shock require over-protectors?
We will also examine the latest trends in glove manufacturing and the unintended consequences of balancing protection against multiple hazards—where safeguarding against one risk may compromise protection against another.
Hand protection is a highly complex topic, and this webinar offers a comprehensive discussion covering a broad range of applications. It aims to address some of the industry's most pressing and unresolved questions.
