Controlling Static Electricity Hazards by Recognizing Early Warning Signs

Date: Thursday October 17, 2024 at 2:00pm ET - 1:00pm CT - 11:00am PT

Electrostatic discharges pose significant flash fire and explosion threat to industrial facilities handling flammable/explosible gases, liquids, and powders (dusts). This webinar focuses on the identification of early warning signs of static electricity and explores practical techniques to mitigate electrostatic discharge risks effectively.

The webinar will begin by explaining how static electricity is generated in industrial operations, shedding light on the factors influencing the risk level based on the material properties and processing operations. Different types of static discharges will be compared involving their energy content and their potential to ignite flammable gas, vapor, and dust cloud atmospheres with varying Minimum Ignition Energy (MIE).

A central part of the presentation will be a case study that would help with the understanding of how electrostatic hazards emerge in process plants, with a particular emphasis on recognizing early warning signs. Participants will learn to identify precursors to potential static-related incidents, empowering them to take proactive measures to prevent fires and explosions.

Participants will achieve the following learning outcomes:

  1. Understanding of different types of electrostatic discharges and their energy levels
  2. Understanding precursors to potential static-related incidents
  3. How to evaluate and effectively control electrostatic discharges
