Federal workplace safety officials have cited an Ohio commercial bakery after an investigation found the employer allegedly exposed workers to multiple safety hazards, including chemical, caught-between, pinch-point, and struck-by risks.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited the employer for three repeat violations related to failures to train workers on lockout/tagout procedures, properly lock out and tag out machines, and guard hazardous equipment. OSHA said those violations exposed employees to serious injury risks.
New Horizons Baking Co. was cited for three repeat, nine serious, and one other-than-serious violations, with proposed penalties totaling $394,849.
The company has 15 business days from receipt of the citations to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. Penalties and citations may be adjusted as the case proceeds.
