Study Finds Exosuit Technology Eliminates Warehouse Back Injuries

A new report shows exosuits led to zero back injuries across 280,000 hours of work in multiple distribution centers.

A recent study by HeroWear has revealed that workers wearing exosuits experienced zero back injuries across 280,000 hours of work, a significant reduction from the previous rate of one injury every 27,000 hours.

This data—collected from multiple U.S. distribution centers—is equivalent to 140 full-time employees using exosuits over one year and performing an estimated 50-60 million lifts. The study also showed a 25 percent decrease in work-related discomfort and a 20 percent reduction in fatigue among exosuit users.

Historically, these facilities would have expected over 10 back injuries within the same timeframe, highlighting the impact of exosuit deployment.

“These are exciting results for companies looking to reduce injury risk for their workers,” HeroWear CEO Mark Harris said in a statement. “Users report they are less sore at work and less tired at the end of the day, with many describing that they are using this additional energy to spend more time doing things they love.”

All participating companies noted improved safety conditions and worker satisfaction. Dr. Karl Zelik, HeroWear's chief scientific officer, explained that they are continuing to collect data from millions of work hours across various industries to further assess the technology’s long-term impact on worker health.

More information on the study is available on the HeroWear website.
