VPPPA Safety+ Sunday Deep Dive Sessions Offered More In-Depth Learning

Topics included process safety management, confined space safety and industrial hygiene best practices.

The 2024 Safety+ Symposium—hosted by the Voluntary Protection Programs Participants’ Association, Inc. (VPPPA)—features a wide variety of networking, workshops and other activities. However, the deep dive sessions which occurred on Sunday, August 25, offered attendees more in-depth discussions on select topics.

Available to Attendee, OSHA/DOE/DOD, and Nonprofit level registrants, these sessions were designed to provide intensive, hands-on learning opportunities tailored to the specific needs and interests of specific participants through full and half-day sessions.

The full-day sessions included such compelling topics as “What’s New in DOE-VPP?” and the “VPP Application Workshop,” which aim to keep professionals updated on the latest developments in the Department of Energy’s Voluntary Protection Program (DOE-VPP) and provide practical guidance on navigating the VPP application process.

For those looking for more flexibility, Sunday’s Safety+ deep dive line-up also features several half-day sessions. The morning sessions covered “PSM 101,” which provides an introduction to Process Safety Management, and “Excellence in Industrial Hygiene,” which focuses on best practices in maintaining workplace health standards.

Meanwhile, the afternoon offered sessions such as “Smooth Operator: Soft Skills for Coaching Continuous Improvement and Culture,” a session focused on developing interpersonal skills for fostering a positive workplace culture and "Confined Space Competent Person Entrant/Attendant/Entry Supervisor: Don’t Become a Statistic," a session emphasizing the importance of safety in confined spaces.
