FAA Approves More Oxygen Concentrator Models

The three newly approved models bring the total of approved devices to 23.

The Federal Aviation Administration has approved three more oxygen concentrator models. An increasing number of airline passengers need to use portable oxygen, and FAA's total of approved devices now stands at 23.

Oxygen concentrators are small, portable devices that separate oxygen from nitrogen and other gases in the air to provide oxygen to users at a very high concentration, according to the press release. The newly-approved devices are the SeQual Technologies eQuinox (Model 4000), Oxywell (Model 4000), and the VBOX Inc. Trooper.

Current regulations allow those who need portable oxygen to use their devices during all phases of a flight, assuming the unit meets FAA requirements. Many times, devices that are FAA-approved have a label saying so on the device. And FAA recommends that airlines allow the use of concentrators even if they are not FAA-approved because they pose no safety danger.
