FEMA, Red Cross Host Earthquake Prep Exercise

Residents of the city of Bothell, Wash., in FEMA Region 10, learned how to be adequately prepared for an earthquake.

With the help of American Red Cross and the Bonneville Power Administration, FEMA held an earthquake preparation exercise in Bothell, Wash., in FEMA Region 10, in order to prepare for a larger exercise in March, according to a press release from FEMA.

The tabletop exercise (one in which movements are simulated, not performed) helps community members decide how to proceed with planning and decision-making in the event that an earthquake actually occurs. This scenario in particular features a 9.2 magnitude earthquake and tsunami, the caliber of which would make it the second-strongest earthquake in history.

FEMA's larger-scale exercise in March will have real field and logistical activity, according to the press release. More than 100 people participated in the exercise.
