OSHA, Union Sign Safety Agreement

An OSHA representative and local unions signed an agreement aimed at ensuring safety among sheet metal and air conditioning workers in Kansas and Missouri.

On Jan. 17, Marcia P. Drumm, acting regional administrator for OSHA in Kansas City, and Stacy Smyly, executive director of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association, signed an agreement aimed at protecting the safety of Kansas and Missouri workers, according to a news release from OSHA.

In addition to the agreement signed, an alliance is also set to be formed by Drumm and the International Association of Sheet Metal Workers, Local 2, which will provide safety training to Local 2 members. The partnership will improve safety in the industry by encouraging employers to voluntarily improve their safety programs, provide them with methods to assist in their efforts, and recognize employers who have exemplary health and safety measures in place. According to Drumm, the agreements "provide a three-pronged approach to promoting the 'safety culture' of this sector of the sheet metal industry."

The agreement was officially signed in Kansas City, Mo.
