OSHA Cites Ole Mexican Foods for Exposing Workers to Amputation Hazards

The company faces over $150,000 in proposed fines

Ole Mexican Foods, headquartered in Norcross, GA, faces over $150,000 in proposed fines for allegedly exposing workers to amputation hazards and other hazards, according to OSHA. The company has been cited for two repeat violations, 14 serious violations and four other-than-serious violations.

The company faces a total of $151,030 fines, $77,000 of which are for failure to ensure workers performing equipment servicing understood the energy control program and procedures for caught-in and amputation hazards from the points of operation on equipment in the production area. This repeated violation was also cited by OSHA in 2011.

The serious violations, which total $73,030 in fines, are for failure to clearly outline energy control procedures, failure to instruct each affected worker on the purpose and scope of the energy control program, failure to ensure authorized workers in the energy control program were using lockout procedures, failure to prevent exposure to amputation and caught in hazards and more. The company also faces a handful of other violations, such as failure to provide an emergency eyewash station, failure to conduct audiograms for temporary workers exposed to excessive noise levels, and more.
