FAA Cites Great Lakes Aviation for Allegedly Conducting Flights with Non-Compliant Aircraft

The aviation company received more than $300,000 in proposed fines.

The Federal Aviation Administration has proposed a $304,000 civil penalty against Great Lakes Aviation, which is based in Cheyenne, Wyo. The aviation center has been cited for allegedly conducting 19 flights with aircraft that were not in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations.

The agency's news release states that Great Lakes Aviation allegedly operated the aircraft in conditions that could have caused frost, snow, or ice to adhere to the planes, causing unnecessary risk. The FAA stated that in January 2011, the company flew Beech 1900 aircraft out of Hays, Kansas with deicing fluid that exceeded the maximum temp of 180 degrees, when the company's manual says fluid about that temperature can damage the plane.

Great Lakes Aviation has not yet issued a comment in response to the filing.
