Comments Sought on 2010 Nano Strategic Plan

The 48-page draft will replace the 2007 strategic plan guiding R&D by 25 participating organizations.

The 2010 National Nanotechnology Initiative Strategic Plan is now available, with comments of a page or less requested by Nov. 30 by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology Subcommittee of the National Science and Technology Council.

The plan guides nanotechnology work by 25 National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) member agencies, which include NIOSH, OSHA, EPA, the Department of Labor, FDA, USDA, NIH, the Department of Defense, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, NASA, and the National Science Foundation. The goal is to plan, promote, and implement nano R&D and investment.

Commenters are asked to register at the NNI Strategy Portal. Sources already providing input on the draft include the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, the National Research Council of the National Academies, public comments accepted in July and August, and the NNI Strategic Planning Stakeholders Workshop that took place July 13-14, 2010, in Arlington, Va.
