Barab to Regale Builders at AGC Conference in Ohio
The Associated General Contractors of America, a leading association for the construction industry, will hold its AGC Safety & Health Conference on July 14-16 in Cincinnati. Industry professionals are invited to participate in the event, which will focus on the development of regulatory and legislative activity on both a national and local level. Participants will assist in the development and creation of new safety training programs and products and hear the latest initiatives from OSHA and other industry experts.
OSHA Deputy Assistant Secretary Jordan Barab is set to headline the conference, offering insight on the latest updates to regulations and the agency's activities, plus congressional moves directly affecting construction safety and health. Prior to joining OSHA as deputy assistant secretary on April 13, 2009, Barab served as the senior labor policy advisor for health and safety. Previously, from 1982 to 1998, he directed the safety and health program for he American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. He then served as special assistant to the OSHA chief from 1998 to 2001. From 2001 to 2002 he was a health and safety specialist for the AFL-CIO, and from 2002 to 2007 he worked on workplace safety issues for the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board. In addition, he created and wrote the award-winning blog "Confined Space" from 2003 to 2007.
The AGC conference will include subcommittee and taskforce meetings on government, education, and performance. But the three-day event will not be all work: a special Evening Reception at the Newport Aquarium will be hosted by AGC of Ohio on July 15 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. All aquarium exhibits will be open for this exclusive outing. Food and beverages will be available, and transportation to and from the hotel will be provided.
