Another Hours of Service Meeting Scheduled

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will host a "listening session" Jan. 28 in Davenport, Iowa, to find out what the industry wants in a new rule.

Development of a new hours of service rule affecting commercial drivers is a top priority for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, which has announced it will host another "listening session" Jan. 28 in Davenport, Iowa, to find out what the industry wants in a new rule.

FMCSA agreed to develop a new one when it settled litigation filed by Public Citizen and allied groups to overturn the current rule.

The agency said wants to know "what factors, issues, and data it should be aware of as it prepares to issue a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on HOS requirements for property-carrying commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers."

The meeting will be held at the Comfort Inn Hotel and Suites, 8300 Northwest Blvd. in Davenport, starting at 1 p.m. local time and will end at 9 p.m. (or earlier if all comments have been heard). To submit comments about the rule, visit www.regulations.gov and search for Docket ID FMCSA-2004-19608.
