Open Forums to Update nanoEHS Progress

The Oct. 6-7 and Nov. 17-18 events in Arlington, Va., are part of the National Nanotechnology Initiative's nanoEHS series.

A pair of open forums scheduled for Oct. 6-7 and Nov. 17-18 in Arlington, Va., will give scientists, policymakers, and the public an update on nanotechnology environmental, health, and safety risks as currently known. The two meetings are part of the National Nanotechnology Initiative's nanoEHS series, and they'll identify next steps in NNI's Strategy for Nanotechnology-Related Environment, Health, and Safety Research.

The October event is devoted to Nanomaterials and the Environment & Instrumentation, Metrology and Analytical Methods, while the November meeting is devoted to Nanomaterials and Human Health & Instrumentation, Metrology and Analytical Methods. NNI's agenda indicates the November event will include congressional remarks and a presentation on the White House's perspective on nanotechnology health and safety.

NNI was created in FY 2001 to coordinate federal nanotechnology R&D and try to keep the United States in a leading position for nano R&D. It is the clearinghouse for individual and cooperative nano-related activities of 25 federal agencies; NNI does not directly fund research.
