NFPA Dedicates New 70E Handbook to Ken Mastrullo

The National Fire Protection Association has dedicated the new edition of the "NFPA 70E® Handbook" to Kenneth G. Mastrullo of OSHA's Boston Area Office. Mastrullo was an NFPA senior electrical specialist and the NFPA staff liaison for the Committee on Electrical Safety in the Workplace before joining OSHA, where he is regional compliance assistance coordinator and Hispanic/ESL coordinator for the Region 1 office in Boston.

"Ken knows electrical safety first-hand. He has had many years of experience as an electrician and a plant engineer, and he understands the real cost of electrical accidents to the worker, the co-workers, and the employer," said Mark Earley, chief electrical engineer at NFPA.

The new handbook includes the full text of the 2009 edition of 70E, Electrical Safety in the Workplace. NFPA said Mastrullo spread the word about electrical safety at the IEEE Electrical Safety Workshop, the Voluntary Protection Programs Participants' Association, and NFPA seminars on 70E. The association said Mastrullo's dedication is reflected in the prominence of 70E and other electrical safety programs around the world. "While Ken can quote the statistics on electrical accidents, he knows that behind those cold hard numbers are real people. He has dedicated his career to protecting those people," Earley said.

Written by E. William Buss, Earley, and Ray A. Jones, the handbook is available from NPFA at a list price of $121.50, $109.35 for NFPA members. Summaries of major changes in the new edition by chapter are included, as are commentaries on protection of electrical workers in R&D laboratories (new Article 350) and use of the expanded table in Article 130.
