CBP Offering Info Sessions about '10+2' Importer Security Filing Rule

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced a schedule for information sessions to provide the trade community with an opportunity to learn about the new Importer Security Filing and Additional Carrier Requirements (a.k.a. ISF/"10+2") interim final rule. The sessions are intended to give the importing and filing community a basic understanding of how to fulfill the new requirements. Sessions in the following cities are scheduled for this month:

  • Oakland, Calif. – Wednesday, Jan. 14
  • Baltimore – Thursday, Jan. 22
  • Philadelphia – Friday, Jan. 23
  • Charleston, S.C. – Wednesday, Jan. 28
  • Savannah, Ga – Thursday, Jan. 29

Dates for Houston, Texas; Boston; Miami/Port Everglades, Fla.; Long Beach, Calif.; Chicago; and Norfolk, Va., will be announced in the near future. Space is limited, so the agency asks that you pre-register using the CBP online registration process on its Web site under Trade: www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/trade/. Specific event information with location details and further instructions will be e-mailed to registrants after completion of the online registration process.

The Importer Security Filing and Additional Carrier Requirements interim final rule was submitted to the Federal Register on Nov. 24, 2008, and will take effect 60 days after its publication. CBP invites written comments on the six data elements for which some type of flexibility has been provided, and on the revised Regulatory Assessment and Final Regulatory Flexibility Analysis. Comments must be received on or before June 1, 2009, which marks the end of the information gathering phase of the structured review.
