CCOHS Offers Introduction to Workplace IAQ E-course

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety has developed a one-hour e-course examining the importance of indoor air quality in offices and other non-industrial workplaces, such as schools, public buildings, and shopping malls.

The quality of air that people breathe at work can affect their health, comfort, and productivity, CCOHS notes. “Indoor Air Quality: An Introduction” covers the factors that affect the quality of indoor air as well as applicable standards and legislation. The course provides practical advice on how to investigate and resolve problems that may arise. "Sick building syndrome" and its causes are described as well as preventive measures that can be taken to safeguard or improve the quality of the indoor air.

The course is geared to workers, managers, supervisors, health and safety committee members, human resources specialists, as well as facility managers, property managers, and commercial realtors, CCOHS says. Case studies, quizzes, and an "ask a question" option are also featured. All e-courses by CCOHS are available in English and French. They are developed by experts in the field and reviewed by labor, employer, and government representatives. More information about the courses, pricing, and how to register is available on the CCOHS Web site at www.ccohs.ca/products/courses/iaq/.
