AIHA's New Board Members Set for June 6 Induction

Results of the American Industrial Hygiene Association's 2008 election are in, with new officers and board members chosen and a bylaws change adopted that affects CIHs' membership in the Academy of Industrial Hygiene. The new board members will be inducted June 6 during the AIHA annual business meeting at AIHce in Minneapolis.

That business meeting also begins the terms of Lindsay E. Booher, CIH, CSP, as AIHA president; Cathy L. Cole, CIH, CSP, as president-elect; Donald J. Hart, PhD, CIH, as past president; and Allan K. Fleeger, CIH, CSP, as treasurer. Elizabeth L. Pullen, CIH, will continue her term as secretary.

Newly elected are Michael T. Brandt, DrPH, CIH, PMP, principal associate director of operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory, who was elected vice president; Cynthia A. Ostrowski, CIH,  independent industrial hygiene consultant for CAO Consulting, LLC, who was elected secretary-elect; Cindy A. Coe, CIH, southeastern regional administrator for OSHA, who was elected to the board; Barbara J. Dawson, CIH, global occupational health competency leader for the DuPont Company, also elected to the board; and Steven E. Lacey, PhD, CIH, CSP, research professor for the University of Illinois at Chicago, also elected to the board.

The bylaws change allows individuals who hold the CIH certification from ABIH to join the Academy of Industrial Hygiene as Academy Affiliate members, recognized as diplomates of the Academy. Previously, membership in the academy was limited to CIHs who were also members of AIHA. The Academy Council believes making academy membership available to all CIHs will help it to achieve the mission of providing leadership in advancing the professional field of industrial hygiene, according to AIHA's news release of the results.
