OSHA Will Emphasize Industrial Truck Safety in Idaho
Powered industrial truck safety, one of OSHA's most-cited standards, will be the focus of this emphasis program.
OSHA is launching a new program in Idaho that will emphasize safety when working with industrial trucks, like forklifts and lift trucks. Investigations will begin this month, identifying and evaluating hazards associated with using these trucks.
Some workplaces that will be targeted by OSHA inspectors are "sawmills, food processing and distribution facilities, warehouse operations, and garden and home supply retailers," according to an OSHA statement.
From 2006 to 2010, five workers were killed in accidents with these vehicles and 142 violations occurred in this four-year span, as well.
According to OSHA, some common violations that occur are: "not providing appropriate operator training, or certification of training, failure to conduct regular inspections prior to operation, defective equipment not taken out of service until repaired, elevating workers in an unsafe manner, and failure to provide or ensure use of seat belts."
