A chemical distributor in Pennsylvania has received an OSHA ciitation alleging 14 violations and assessing $64,665 in fines. Brenntag Northeast Inc. in Reading was inspected last September as part of OSHA’s National Emphasis Program on process safety management focusing on chemical facilities. Thirteen serious violations were issued, including a lack of chemical hazard protection and fall hazard protection, in addition to other serious hazards related to formaldehyde loading safety.
"Process safety management prevents or mitigates a catastrophic release of toxic, reactive or flammable liquids and gases in chemical processes," said Kevin Kilp, director of OSHA's Harrisburg Area Office, in a statement on the OSHA website. "This company jeopardized the safety of its workers by failing to implement effectively OSHA's process safety management regulations."
The final, other-than-serious violation was for dangerous electrical cord placement.
