Combustible Dust - Dust Fire & Explosion Safety
A Dust Hazards Analysis [DHA] is a means to achieve safety from dust fire, flash fire, and explosion hazards in facilities where combustible/explosible powders and dusts are handled or processed. We should all know by now that simultaneous presence of a sufficiently dense dust cloud in air and an energetic ignition source would result in a dust flash fire (deflagration). If that same dust cloud is within a confined space, then the result could be a devastating dust explosion. Further, people who work with powders also know that explosible dust clouds are usually expected at least at some point during any powder handling, transfer, processing, dust collection, and packaging operations. Therefore, measures must be taken to identify and control all credible ignition sources or protect people and the business, and the community against the consequences of ignition.
