Vision & Eye Occupational Health Through the Lens of Public Health
What you will learn from this webinar:
Vision health and public health will be used as a framework to aid the occupational health professional in promoting a healthy and safe working environment and in assuring a well-functioning and healthy working community. You will learn that occupational eye disorders represent a complex group of: traumatic injuries, harmful exposures; uncorrected and undiagnosed ocular diseases and disorders, ocular complications of systemic disease and medications, eyestrain and fatigue.
You will be able to: 1. describe essential elements of current federal vision/eye occupational health policy to inform employer policies, 2) recognize potential employee's vision and eye health issues in relation to their work, 3) provide employees evidenced based recommendations, using the workplace to promote improved/protected vision and eye health and wellbeing being and 4) be able to employ reasonable adjustments to ensure a vision and eye safe/healthy working environment.
Michael Dueñas, O.D., F.N.A.P., Chief Public Health Officer, American Optometric Association
A graduate of the University of Florida (B.S.) and the University of Alabama, UAB Medical Center - School of Optometry (O.D.), his work experience includes; research, private clinical and hospital-based practice, interdisciplinary teaching, health policy and scientific service to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (1996-2009). Dr. Dueñas served on the National Commission on Vision and Health (NCVH), George Washington University and testified before the 111th U.S. Congress on vision health issues. Dr. Dueñas served on the National Eye Institute (NEI), National Eye Health Education Program (NEHEP) and is Immediate Past Chair of the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), Advisory Panel on Improving Healthcare Systems. Dr. Dueñas has also served the Medical Occupational Health needs of the U.S. Postal Service and NASA.
