Demystifying Workplace Noise Control

Risk of noise-induced hearing loss from noise in the workplace remains a prevalent workplace injury. Controlling noise in the workplace can be a complex challenge. Even after the dominant noise sources have been identified and the necessary degrees of noise reduction have been determined (which itself can be a formidable challenge), it can seem overwhelming to determine what sorts of noise control measures may be beneficial, or which may be impractical from the myriad products available. Moreover, many aspects of acoustics and noise control are counter-intuitive, and subject to myth and misinformation. But there are some fortuitous fundamentals of acoustics that can help to clarify and simplify these challenges.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • that there are only four basic parameters that determine the loudness of noise in a workplace;
  • that, in broad terms, there are only three ways to reduce workplace noise – all engineered noise control measures are examples of one of these three techniques;
  • what are the available noise control measures for workplace applications;
  • which noise control methods work in which applications, and which are ineffective;
  • what are the pros and cons of these various noise control options.
